Multi-Line Commercial Underwriter
Exciting opportunity for a company-level, Multi-Line Commercial Underwriter in Flint Michigan. This position will be active as a liaison with agency representatives in a Michigan territory. The Underwriter will play a critical role in the underwriting and renewal review of commercial accounts. They will evaluate risks related to our commercial lines products to determine acceptability and will work with the underwriting team to meet established profitability and production goals. This position will be a hybrid work schedule, reporting to the home office in Flint, MI three days a week with remote capabilities/opportunities two days a week.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Responsible for new business and renewal underwriting. Determining appropriate premiums and coverage based on risk characteristics.
- Responsible for the development of relationships with the independent agents and their staff members that represent Pioneer within their specific territory.
- Monitors and assists in ways to develop and maintain a profitable book of business within the territory.
- Consults with field representatives, insurance agents, and other insurance or inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates or explain company underwriting policies.
- Examines documents such as application forms, inspection reports, and past claims to determine degree of risk from such factors as applicant financial standing, business operations, loss experience and value and condition of property, vehicles, inventory and equipment.
- Determines whether to accept, modify or decline risks.
- Establishes types of limits of coverage to be provided.
- Evaluate property values for reinsurance needs.
Necessary skills:
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in handling Property, Liability, Umbrella, Inland Marine, Workers Compensation, Commercial Auto, Garage, BOP and Package business policies
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field and/or CPCU, CIC, or CRM certificate designation.
- Exhibit professional, courteous and compassionate service in a timely manner to external clients and internal staff.
- Sound reasoning and independent decision-making skills.
- Ability to research and analyze various types of data and information.
- Detail oriented perspective with good organization skills.
- Proficient in Excel
