Seeking experienced Actuarial Analyst to provide primarily Personal Lines support, but also Commercial Lines support as needed, with ratemaking, loss reserving, and performance monitoring responsibilities within the Actuarial Department. This position requires the ability to develop strong relationships through quality customer service, creative problem solving, and sound analytics while working with the Marketing, Underwriting, Information Services, and Finance departments. This position is based out of the company’s Home Office in Flint, Michigan with the current hybrid work schedule:
- Monday and Friday: optional WFH
- Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday: in-person at home office location
Responsibilities:
- Monitor the company’s personal and commercial lines of business with various performance metrics.
- Develop rate indications by line of business and support the selected assumptions.
- Perform loss reserving on all lines of business using multiple techniques and recommend reserve levels to the Chief Actuary.
- Analyze company loss experience and competitor information to support ratemaking activities.
- Facilitate the rate change process and document rate changes by line of business.
- Prepare formal written Actuarial recommendations for the Chief Actuary and for the company’s management team.
- Prepare supporting exhibits for rate filings by line of business and respond to department of insurance inquiries.
- Respond to ad hoc analyses and requests, as well as other special projects, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Five years or more of related work experience strongly preferred, along with a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or Ph. D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- Completion of at least two exams required (completion of 4+ exams preferred).
- Comfortable with computer automation, including the Microsoft Office Suite, and preferably a working knowledge of MS Access, SQL, or Visual Basic.
- Familiarity with GLMs and predictive modeling preferred but not required.
