Everyone loves a nice cookout - sitting around playing yard games, grilling out, and spending some quality time with friends and family.

What could possibly ruin a perfect summer day like that, you may ask?

Answer: A bunch of burnt burgers and hotdogs due to a grill fire!

If you haven’t put two and two together by the opening paragraph and the title (kind of a dead giveaway) …this blog is going to be about grill safety!

While most of us love summertime and don’t look forward to the end, the summer months do bring along an unfortunate spike in grill-related fires. The warm weather is not over yet so, now seems as good of a time as any to go over a few simple tips to keep that backyard cookout from going up in flames.

  • Grills should only be used outdoors; never operate a grill inside
  • Always place grills a safe distance away from any objects or structures
  • Make sure your grill is placed on a level surface
  • Never leave a lit grill unattended
  • Always keep a water source close by
  • Have a fire extinguisher handy near the grilling area
  • Clean your grill after each use

We know all of these seem like pretty straightforward items BUT it is so easy to forget to run this quick checklist before firing up that grill.

Try to keep these tips at the forefront of your mind for the remainder of the grilling season and you should be able to avoid any major grilling catastrophes. There is, however, no solution for a bad cook who burns the burgers, that is one problem we can’t help mitigate!
